Under Internet Explorer you want to uncheck "cookies" also for firefox if you use it. But the best way is to goto "Options" then "Cookies" them move the ones you want to keep to the list on the right side (Cookies to keep.)

open ccleaner in the windows tab make sure under internet explorer that the "auto-complete form history" is unchecked, also if you use another browser like Firefox in the applications tab under the browser of the same name "saved form history" needs to also be unchecked. have great new year

This really works! I had the same problem for quite a while and took the easy way of just not allowing CC to delete my cookies. Finally, decided to do the sorting and realized that there were only about 20 sites in all that I needed to allow to save password cookies.
Next 5 times I ran CC only took a minute or two to scan the cookie list for ones I had missed and safeguard them. Now, I can let CC clear my cookies, cache [not my history--I like that to remain available!] and still auto-login to my favorite sites. :)

Yes this is how I do it, I maintain my cookie list like this but make sure if your using other cleaner programs to not let it clean cookies. Also, before a reformat, check the setting in [Options] > [Advanced] [Save all setting to ini file] Then backup that ini file. Then after a new OS install, install CCleaner and copy that ini file back into the CCleaner directory and they are all there safe and sound.

*I probably can't explain things correctly but I hope you get the idea*

You explained it fine. I am going to start including a copy of the CCleanerSettings.ini in the folder with my FF backup files, which I write to disc periodically. Thank You. :)

Does CCleaner simply create that .ini file upon checking that box and closing CCleaner? If so, where does that file get saved? I tried this but a search found no .ini file.

It puts it in Program Files>CCleaner. I had to show both Hidden and System Files to see it. Strangely, when I rechecked the boxes to hide Hidden and also System files the ccleaner.ini is still visible. Don't know if this will be the case as it is updated.

*and it does list all the cookies you have chosen to save. It doesn't actually save the cookies you'd have to do that with Mozbackup or something similar for IE.

Thanks, I found it. I had previously searched for CCleanerSettings.ini, since you previously posted that. But, I now see ccleaner.ini.

Sorry, I hadn't actually tried the settings yet and just put a fake name for the .ini file in my post.

I think it was Buck_nekid that actually got me to do the cookie settings properly in the first place, so I'm going to follow his/her advice again and save the ccleaner.ini in hopes that is as useful as safe-guarding my preferred cookies has been. I'm sure I will be glad that I have it. :)

Yes, it just saves your setting for what to keep in the ini file. Like sach2 said it just a list of what to keep. It's "ccleaner.ini" in "C:\Program Files\CCleaner" I just check the box then run 'clean' and then I have my .ini file.

I am a heavily armed backup(er) save many .ini from different programs, Mozbackup, usually the whole %appdata% folder. I do this rather than image my drive, I usually can get XP back to my settings, start menu set up, etc in less than two hours and I can know it's 'fresh'. I also have a dvd with all the DOT.NET and vb runtimes, C++ runtimes, SP3, etc. I only install sp2 because once you have sp3 you can't (at least I can't find a way) install WMP10 <--hate WMP11. Then I do SP3. OK, I have veered way off course.
