I have a ATI mobility radeon HD 5870 card.
While playing graphics intensive games the computer freezes (sometimes a black or grey screen with vertical stripes - lots of buzzing sounds- probably from the game music freezing).
I updated the video card/os/sound card... and I am thinking the internal fan is not up to par.

Is there a way to adjust the fan speed ? I have read BIOS! but thats all i can find. How do I access BIOS? is there a selection for TURN UP FAN ?
    Thanks for the help.

To accessthe BIOS,usually press f2,( sometimes the del button) on startup
This should show you the bios screen
Some models do have an option to use things like speedfan, but be very careful what you touch, as you can really upset the pc from here.
ATI don't seem to like to offer drivers, if it is an Asus part, as they find it can cause more problems.
Your problem could be airflow through the laptop- have you tried it on one of those laptop coolers?

Since posting this I was think my laptop is over heating and the internal fan cannot keep up. So I move a small fan and aimed it towards the back of the computer. I also noticed my screen brightness was at 100%. SO i baced it to 50/50. Where I live it has been hot and there is a large window in the room but the blinds dont keep out my heat...I will add a cover for it.

Thanks for the computer cooler tip... I will research.

I did find other ATI HD 5xxx users with the same problem and they were talking about adjusting you clock speed....but that's above my head.. lol

    Thanks for the tip.

Thanks again. I went to the local micro center and got the CM Storm pad. I never even thought about a cooling pad. Thanks Bud....now to see if that was the problem. But I think it was the issue...to much power...too hot.
