i am posting this on behalf of my friend.

on her computer she has zone alarm, avast, norton and mcafee.

as soon as the computer is turned on, around 3 mins after a blue screen appears basically saying that there is something wrong with the computer and it needs to be restarted in safe mode.

this code is on the screen :
    *** STOP : 0X0000008E (0X000000S , 0X82DE7B6C, 0XEE290A68, 0X00000000)

and it says beginning dump of physical memory and counts to a 100 before restarting automatically.

it has been happening since friday 14th, but the screen seems to be comming up quicker then before now. we tried a system restore to the 6th but it still happened then.

yesterday a notepad window also popped up with a code but the blue screen soon came up so we didnt get that code down in time. she is not even able to connect to the internet either.

i have read the other post about crashing and it sounds like a similar problem. but i just wondered if there is anyway around it, or is best for her to take it to somebody is person to look at it for her?

any information or comments would be greatful, thanks xx

Whilst this may not be the source of the problem you/she seem(s) to have more than one antivirus installed. This is a bad idea and can cause all sorts of complications.

If you are using a 'bought' version of zone alarm (the one with AV) I reccomend you keep that since you have paid for it and got rid of the others.

If you are just using the firewall part of ZA then keep that AND one of the others (personally I prefer avast but it depends on what youv'e paid for I guess)

I also reccomend Windows Defender as realtime malware protection.

THis is a little off topic but alway worth a read Protecting yourself from malware

At the time of the crash, have her check her hardware temperatures. If the machine is overheating, it will crash much like this. Has she added any hardware recently? She may also be drawing too much power for her PSU, causing crashes. This might also happen if the new part is faulty.

Another thing you can do to help narrow down the problem is to check the event logs. To do so, please do the following:

    1. Right-click My Computer
    2. Select 'Manage'
    3. Expand 'Event Viewer'

Here, you will see at least an Application, Security, and System log. There might be more depending on her setup. Look through the application and system logs for yellow exclamation marks and/or red xs around the time of the crashes. Hopefully, this will provide some insight into the problem.

Oh DUH! I missed that! Yes, ONLY ONE ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM AT A TIME!!

That's a great thread. It will save her money as well as time and energy.

You could also try looking in the event logs when you reboot to see if you can find the file that caused the issue, unless your BSOD tells you which one it is ?
