crashing laptop

hey guys, i have a dell laptop that is running windows xp home with sp1. i keep getting the blue screen, or it will freeze up, or it will restart it self. anybody know what this is? i did a full format and then installed xp home, it came with xp pro. thanks for all help.

The Blue Screen of Death is never good.
You should really think of getting SP2.

 

ok .. uh ... im copy/pasting this form the other guy who has crashing problems:

try right clicking "my computer" > properties > in the "advanced tab" tick "settings" in the "start up and recovery" box > untick "automatically restart" ... the next time it crashes you should get a blue screen with numbers on it ... write those numbers down and post them here and hopefully me or someone here will be able to make sense of them

 

Just curious, does the PC have any version of Adaptec or Roxio Easy CD Creator?

Out of curiousity, I notice you said you removed XP Pro to install Home, if you have a legal copy of Pro is there a reason for this in particular? Also, if you did a fresh install from an XP disc on laptops sometimes it's just less of a headache to use the restore discs the manufacturer uses and remove all their proprietary garbage because they are already functional, but if you're the kind of guy who likes to do it all yourself more power to you.
