crashing pc

everytime i try watch a media file via internet like movie trailers and ebaum stuff pc tries to connect to media then seizes up on me. after a min or so i can finally get back to desktop , error report reads something about that i might have dwnlded spyware , I ran AVG and get no probs , i just reformatted because i had windows files on both c and d drives , now im only running c drive. not sure how to retrieve all info about my pc , so if its needed pls tell me how to get it and post it , oh yeah tried to ply Medal of Honor and it crashes as well , have to reboot . Thx for any and all help. Rob

Post the log as an attachment ONLY, don't copy and paste.

I'm concerned because you got the pop up that said you could have downloaded spyware. There are several spyware apps that deliver the same message or something similar, but are sinister in origin, and messages as the one that you received are common, trying to get you to click on a hyper link to download something.

If AVG didn't turn up anything, it still doesn't mean that you aren't infected with spyware. Antivirus programs only detect viruses and not spyware, and they are classified and detected differently.

My advice would be to go to the SpyWare Specifc page of this forum, read and follow all advice/instructions in the sticky notes at the top of the page, and if it doesn't solve your problem, post back. Members here are glad to help!

Click "Go Advanced", then type your post in, then "Manage Attachments" and browse to the log and upload it.

When it's uploaded, submit Reply.

Spyware is always a problem, and Novice's suggestion is valid, however, something confuses me.

In your log, all your hardware is pretty good, however, it states that you are only running an Athlon 1100?

That seems a tad outdated for all your other hardware.

What is your processor supposed to be, do you know?

changed settings in frequency/voltage was at 100 mhz now 166

 

Don't take my word as gospel, I could very well be wrong.

I just thought it strange that your processor was only an 1100.

It now says 1833 MHZ, 2500+.

Only play around with the settings when you know exactly what your processor is, otherwise you will cook it!

If in doubt, use fail-safe defaults in the bios.


I don't know what your CPU is, so I can't tell you the settings to use.

 

i had help lol ,friend new what it was , i dont know much as u can tell lol. k how do i do that, my cpu.

It should be running HEAPS better now!

Sorry mate, I don't understand what you are saying.

When you right-click My Computer, then Properties, you should get System Properties.

In System Properties, there should be several tabs like General, Computer Name, Hardware, Advanced etc?

 

k , sry , when i right click my pc and select properties all i get is general and shortcut tabs, when i click on advanced i get {under general /advanced} i get choose options youwant for this file. when i click on shortcut tab /advanced i get choose the advanced properties you want for this shortcut, is this the normal?

It's normal for a shortcut, but not for the original. It sounds like a shortcut.

Where is this file, is it in the Start menu, or on your desktop?

Then it's just a shortcut and normal.

If you have My Computer in the Start Menu, you can right-click it for more options.

If you don't have it, you can right-click the Start button, properties, then the Start Menu tab.

Click Customize, then Advanced, and scroll down to My Computer and set to "Display as a link" then OK and Apply.

What media files, what media player, and what happens when you try to play them?

It's more than likely codec related.

 

lol the same ones in my first post , ill try to be more specific, i have quick time aswell as windows media plyr

I don't have a direct answer for that one.

You can try to get more information on the error by clicking Start, Run and typing in eventvwr.msc then OK.
