Is it possible for a person to have a chemical makeup that causes technology to go on the fritz? I know this exists with certain people and batteries - the batteries just stop. I'm wondering if this could happen with my husband who, everyday, has a problem with our computer, our phones, his cell phone, etc... It's maddening. He'll do something that freezes up the computer or just doesn't do what it should do and I'll come over and do the same thing and it'll work.

I guess I'm hoping something like this exists so that I don't have decades of taking care of all of the technical snafus that happen when he enters the room.

Have a great Saturday. I'll be on the phone with the internet service asking why his internet works intermittently while mine is fine...

I imagine hard science would say No, but my husband drains watch batteries like nobody's business. I am frequently ignored by touch screens, touch pads, touch mice and so on... including our microwave... which makes NO sense, since it actually closes physical contacts through the pressure.
My husband can't use my computer, but can use his own. If he tries to use mine it will lock up, or shut down... or the most extreme example... blow out my sound card, even though he wasn't doing anything that created sound and the speakers were not on either. lol Go figure.

The vastness of what we know is only surpassed by the vastness of what we do not.

I know people who constantly struggle with technology. I don't mean that they don't understand it or that they're somehow abusing it. Not at all. It seems, that there is a certain percentage of our population that approach everything differently than the rest of us do. They always try to unscrew the ketchup bottle the wrong way. Faucets, initially confound them, until they try them the wrong way first. So what may seem logical to us, is completely at odds with the way they are wired. They make great "testing demons". If you create a product that you wish to release to the public, give it to one of these unlucky souls to play with it for a while. After they've broken it, the designer may comment, that they never imagined someone using it that way. My advice?? Don't worry about it. One of my brothers has exactly the same curse/blessing. He can find the flaw in any design as he often demonstrates while the next new toy crumbles in his hands. :)

    Hi Stephanie :)

I guess some folk just are not very technology orientated and tend to kill electronic equipment, really no fault of their own just happens I guess, my dad cannot work out or use electronic stuff properly like Videos, DVDs, Phones etc, he is not daft as he is a well educated man but I guess technology is a daemon to him.

Maybe time to change husbands ;) ;)

Whilst i agree with prometheos in regards to a certain percentage of people simply do things 'differently' than the majority, from a scientific point of view, there is such a thing known as 'ESD Phenomenon'.
The human body is a conductor of electricity, and we all 'give off' what is known as Electrostatic Discharge or ESD!
This discharge given off by the human body is known as an 'ESD pulse', and is a source of 'unreliability' and damage, especially to electronic semiconductor devices.
Scientific measuring equipment has shown that some individuals are capable of emitting 'larger than normal', voltage levels within their ESD pulse.

Whilst not entirely proven, this is one given possibility as to why some people just seem to have no luck in operation of certain sensitive electronic devices.

High voltage ESD pulse rates are also a suspected cause of whats known as 'early life device failure' of componentry, so if you suspect your husband may be a candidate.....don't let him use your computer! LOL (only kidding).

    Regards...

VERY interesting topic here! I'm with nitecrawler on this... I think that some people just have higher levels of electricity being generated in 'em. I had a friend that was always 'zapping' stuff, everywhere. Like when you rub your sock-wearing-feet on the carpet, and touch someone else..... ZAP!

Wow! I just got back online and there were so many responses. I really like the idea that some people just approach things in a totally different and unusual way that often leads to meltdowns, but I'm of course rooting for the ESD pulse which is what I've actually thought about for years re: my husband. It's not even things he does - it's when he even touches something.

And Halo - you're awfully cute to say pick another husband. I guess when I get really tired of fixing computers, I'll think about it...however, you and your friends here make computer fixing easy ;)

Fun stuff! Now if I can only negate his ESD pulse....maybe I've found my purpose in life.

    ps. to Halo

P.S. Halo. Is your avatar eating a banana or his hand? I've always wondered. Both are cute.

Strange....and here I thought it was a case of hoof-in-mouth disease ....I stand corrected.

My wife kills computers just be walking past them ....but then, I think it is less electromatic and more her personal hatred of them ...LOL
