    Hello
I have a desktop pc running windows xp professional and have been using the windows backup program and Drive Image to create backups of the pc and to create a a complete backup (image) of the pc.

I now have a notebook pc running vista home premium with sp1 on it. However, I don't seem to be able to find any information on whether or not the windows backup software that I had been using with Windows XP Pro is available for Vista Home Premium.

Is there any such software for Vista Home Premium and if not can anyone recommend something to be able to create a complete backup of the system (now that I have installed all the applications I need and configured the pc the way I want it a)

I did check out drive image website and it does state that it does work with Vista but the Bart PE part of it only states XP.

    Any suggestions?

I guess that would work - I was sort of hoping that I was just not finding the info (maybe not wording it right in my searches) for the MS Backup program - but for Vista not XP.

I'll have to check it out.

From what I briefly read about it, it sounds like it would do - except that with the MS backup it would also create an automated system recovery along with backing up the files and folders or the entire system. ( a complete backup program)

I guess I will need to find something else to be able to create a copy / image of the pc as well.

    Any suggestions????

Not sure what software is compatible with Vista but i would think of course the list is many. A program i am useing and have had great success with acronis home image beta 3. All you have to do is register asa beta tester and it's free for use. The prog is awesome, i really like it. Not sure if it works on Vista or not but they probably list the various equipment requirements. Vista is popular so it will prob work. Just a suggestion :)

    Hi

Acronis should work, I use their version 11 of this app and would imaging the beta 2009 version would be Vista compatible, would test myself this right now for you, however the download page at Acronis is not working ( have emailed a contact of mine at Acronis so should be able to get a download or invite to the beta )

But this one DriveImage XML does work in Vista 32bit fine and creates a full image clone so try it out, but Acronis is IMHO the best out their for images of drives.

I have used the drive image on my pc running windows xp pro. I just wasn't so sure about using it with vista home premium since it does state that it is compatible with vista 32 but then down further it states "DriveImage XML runs under Windows XP Home, XP Professional and Windows Server 2003 only."

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll check out acronis

    Hi

DriveImage XML does run under Vista 32bit but needs to be run as Admin, so right click its shortcut and choose Run as Administrator.

(think our description needs updating, so cheers for pointing that out )

Also I have not tested this one yet, but have it ready to run and test soon Refect Free Edition

I do run Vista, so will only suggest apps normally that I have tested beforehand, so Acronis True Image while not free is IMHO the best around, very easy to use. Pitty you didnt have Vista Ultimate as that has Disk Imaging built in ( also pitty its not available for download to Home Premium version ).

To be perfectly honest, the only reason I actually now have vista is because I was having problems with my desktop that has been upgraded from Windows ME to XP Pro and was in urgent need of access to a pc & the internet before the desktop could be fixed. So ran out to the only store in our area (live in the middle of nowhere and the closest store of any kind is 25 miles away) which happens to be a Radio Shack and they had this Gateway M1629 which has Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1 installed on it. In fact all 5 of the pc's they have all come with the same system preinstalled on them. The next option was Wal-Mart and to get to any real store would have been a minimum of 40 miles in one direction.

Anyway, thanks for the info on Drive Image. I'll have to stick with that for now, at least until we have some sort of income (hubby lost job recently and can't afford to be buying anything right now - in fact, paying for this notebook is not something that we could really afford to do right now but needed to be able to access the internet to search for work).

As soon as possible I'll have to get the Acronis Software. I did look into the Acronis Software --- what is the difference in the Acronis 2009 and the Disk Director Suite?

    Thanks Again!!!
