Need instructions to create a batch file, or thats what I think it is called. I want to be able to create a batch file that will run Norton Antivirus Live Update automatically every couple of days. Would also like to create a batch file that will run my Ad-Ware 6.0 at every startup or every couple of days automatically.

    Thanks,
    D

hi there if you go into ad-aware and click the settings tab you can set it to run at windows start-up ;)

as for live update im not so sure but i know if your on an isdn line or equivalent it will run itself every 4 hours if live update is enabled

what you describe can be done with Scheduled Tasks, which can be accessed via the Control Panel (in classic view, that is). Click add task and the wizard should walk you through setting up a task. You can set these to run every week, twice a week, every day, once a month, etc.

If you want the tasks it does to be completley automatic (i.e. you need no user input) you'll need to look up in the documentation about command switches.

Ill have a look at ad aware but i cant for NAV because i dont have the product

Ok, ive checked the AAW documentation, this is the command line you need in the sheduled tasks wizard :

    "C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-aware 6\Ad-Aware.EXE" "C:" +S +A +0

That should run ad aware, scan c:\, without deep scanning (its quicker) remove anything it finds, minimized.

To enter that, you need to go to the advanced properties after you complete the wizard

Thanks for your help. Both of your suggestions worked. I love this site. It's for both the experienced pc user and us dummies.

    No dummies here, dm.

Just people with questions and people with answers.

Sometimes the answers even match the questions. :p :p
