Create ISO file of game for faster speed?

I have heard many people say that using an ISO file for games runs them faster. I have tested this out on some of the games I have bought, and it seems to be true. I tested this by downloading ISO's of the games, then using my serial key.

What I am wanting to know is how would I go about making an ISO file to do this? I just got a copy of Oblivion, and am wanting to do anything possible to make it run faster while being keeping my settings as High as possible.

Ahhh, this is a favourite trick of mine. I run Battlefield 2, Warcraft 3 and Starcraft from images on the hard drive, and YES it improves performance.

You obviously have some sort of application for mounting an image file as a virtual drive? Daemon Tools seems to be most common.

Alchohol 52% is a freeware application that images discs (ie make an ISO file), and it does drive emulation as well. However, this app lets you install up to 6 virtual drives where Daemon tools allows only 4.

Do note though that this is a practice that, while legitimate for games you own, the anti-pirates HATE (as with most good things, it can be abused), and try to stop. Some games don't image nicely. However, Alcohol might work better than the application I was using, as IIRC, Alcohol was designed for imaging game discs.
