    Hi

is the full error message by any chance: "Create Overlay failed. Please lower your screen resolution or color depth and try again."

If so are you plugging a laptop or desktop into a secondary display as an extended desktop?

First try lowering the display settings to a lower resolution, especially the secondary display or TV.

or goto Display Properties & click the settings tab > and untick/check the box by Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor > click OK. ( however this will only allow you to view the DVD on the primary monitor )

Yes, that's exactly what it says.

I'm sorry, could you please claify? I'm not plugging a laptop into my computer if that's what you're asking.

Yeah, it just says "default monitor" because I'm only using one monitor. Obviously I've tried lowering the screen resolution and color depth to the lowest possible settings and it didn't work. Now I don't know what to do.

I've had PowerDVD give me this error and I never found a way repair it except to uninstall it and use WinDVD instead. It worked fine. Try a different media player... many GREAT ones can be downloaded for free in the Multimedia section, right here from 'The Geeks'....

I would in that case if lowering resolutions does not help this, to follow that hopperdave mentions above in trying a different media player to what your using now, just in case its the playback software at fault.

or re-install the one your using now.

also update your graphic card drivers to latest version.

I run Win98SE and WinDVD4 and suddenly received this refusal. I found it to be because the "paging File" or swap file (w386.swp) was denied enough room on Drive_C. I transferred the paging file to a separate and dedicated partition and all was well until a lightning-strike mains/surge crashed the computer and made confetti out of too much software. All is now working again except for WinDVD4. I am going to wipe Drive_C and re-install Windows 98SE - tomorrow !

Ref. my last post (not appearing here - likely my fault). I cannot get WinDVD to behave in a gentlemanlike manner. Confess that, at the moment, I am stumped. Would like to discover identity of the so-called programmer who created the program and arrange for a quiet assassination - naughty -:)

    Still more on WinDVD.
I have carried out a thorough cleaning session on my PC, moved the swap file temporarily back to Drive_I and then defragged Drive_C (it was a real mess!). Transferred swap file (paging file) back to Drive_C, rebooted at each stage, and obtained a result of absolutely ZILCH. IT MUST FOLLOW THAT EVERYTHING I HAVE POSTED TO DATE WAS LARGELY MISCONCEIVED RUBBISH ?
Windows Media Player and Real Player (and as from yesterday Quick Time) behave as well as I expect from Windows and so it appears that there is an obscure fault in WinDVD? Must try to download one of those other players available from Major Geeks.
Of course, Microsoft have always excelled at circular arguments ... If anyone would care to join in this ring-around-the-roses dance I have straitjackets on order. Ken Green

    Ken Green, welcome.
Please start a new thread for your problem. Is is poor etiquette to hijack someone else's thread and attach your problem. It is also not good to dredge up a thread from 2006.

When you post, combine your three entries into 1 post giving all information.

I had this same problem and found the solution (at least it was what worked for me.)

    Have you used Netmeeting latetly?

If so, launch Netmeeting and then exit.

    Presto, problem was solved.
