I have a dell Inspiron 15 running Windows 10 Home 64 bit with DirectX12 Laptop.

I am trying to make a USB password reset disk.

When I go to Contro Panel, User Accounts and click the "create password reset disk" button, nothing
happens. Does anyone have the same problem and knows how to activate this button, I would be
    eternally grateful.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hair of red.

Is the USB Flash drive connected and recognized by Windows before you click on that link?

    Hi mdonah,

The flash drive was connected but not recognized. That must be the problem. How do I
get Windows to read that drive?

    Hi Ddonah,

The problem is solved, thanks to you. The port that I had it in probably didn't have a good connection. The USB flash drive was read when I used a different port. Everything is fine now thanks to you and MajorGeeks.

You're welcome. Glad you were able to sort out the USB port issue. I have an Inspiron 15 laptop myself. Did you use a USB 2.0 port or the USB 3.0 port?

I used the 3.0 at first then tried the 2.0 port that worked. Thanks again for steering me in the right direction.

I have one other problem with Windows 10. Since you have the same Dell PC laptop as I, you are the best moderator to solve my other problem.

I need to install the Microsoft.Net Framework Version 2.0 download to run a game. I have the download but I'm having a problem installing it. Can you help me or should I post another thread?

As plodr's linked to instructions state, go to Programs and features in Control Panel, then to Turn Windows features on or off. I, personally, turn on all features of .NET Framework 3.5 and .NET Framework 4.6 Advanced Features (I run an app that requires 4.6). When you click OK after you make your selection(s) Windows will ask to download the necessary files from Windows Update. After the files are downloaded, the changes will be applied and you can click on Close.

Both net. Framework 3.5 and net. Framework 4.6 are checked. Both of the boxes are filled, meaning only part of the feature is turned on. I tried unchecking and had Windows update the files. The same occurred with filled boxes. I don't know if that's good or bad.

The same thing is still happening. Every time when I boot up, I get an error message "Required System Software Not Installed" Microsoft .net Framework Version 2.0 is required to continue.

Should I continue to ignore this message? If yes, is there a way I can eliminate this message from start up?

When you go to Turn Windows features on or off and the list populates, you need to click on the plus sign on the left to expand it AND check mark the subfeatures. A check mark will then show in the top box instead of a filled box meaning everything is chosen.

I did as you suggested and got a check mark. When I closed, the files were updated.

Trouble is the error message still comes up when I boot up.

It looks like I will have to continue deleting, and ignor it.

Sorry, at this point, I don't know what's going on or which program(s)/Startup Item(s) need .NET 2.0. There is no standalone .NET Framework 2.0 installer for Windows 10.

Thanks for your help. It is baffling to have a file that can't be deleted. I don't remember what app I tried to install that created that error message. I thought it might have been a cookie, but I checked the cookie files and didn't see any thing related. I'm sure there must be a net.Framework 2.0 stand alone file somewhere, but I don't know what path I should look in, do you?

The only way I know is to turn it on in Turn Windows features on or off. Try going back in and unchecking all features and subfeatures of .NET Framework 3.5, applying the changes and restarting the computer. THEN go back and checkmark all subfeatures and features of .NET Framework 3.5, apply the changes and restart the computer. If THAT doesn't work, I'm at a total loss. There is NO standalone installer for .NET Framework 2.0 in Windows 10.

I did as you suggested and unchecked all net. Framework features & sub-features, applied and restared. When I booted up, the error message was still there. It still was there when I rechecked the boxes. Sorry but this is one of those things that can't be undone.

At least I know that I DO HAVE NET. FRAMEWORK 3.5
