    Hi,

    I have an annoying issue with Excel where it keeps asking me ""This document is both encrypted and password protected. The Office Open XML Formats available in the 2007 release provide stronger encryption. Do you want to increase the security of this document by converting to an Office Open XML Format? Yes/No"

    The answer is I Never Want to! I went looking on the internet and found this site: http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/disable-the-office-open-xml-format-dialog-prompt.3586809/ which says I can create a "reg key". I'm wondering if this is something that a novice can safely do. My IT department definitely won't do it for me - truly doubt that they would know how anyway.

    So dear Major Geeks - if this is something that can easily be done, can someone walk me thru it. If not, don't worry that my pride will be hurt - just say so...

    Thanks as always.

    Tammy

    If you open notepad and type (copy and paste):

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\Security]
    "NoPromptForRC4Encryption"=dword:00000001

    Then save it as officefix.reg it will have an icon of a paper with a blue box, if you double click it and hit yes 2 times it will add the key.
