Creating Playstation CD Back-ups

I would like to know if there are any freeware programs that would allow me to make back-ups of my Playstation 2 CD's. I have several CD's that are scratched and will not play on the Playstation and I believe I can get them read on my computer and transferred to another CD for usage. As far as I know, there isn't a cheap way to make a copied CD work on a Playstation. There is one solution which requires programming a PIC chip, which intercepts the CD reader's data, substituting an invalid checksum code of '0000' for the first sector. This is difficult in the extreme, for non-professionals. Another way, is to acquire the use of a commercial Disc Mastering Burner. The last time I looked, they were costing upwards of USD $15,000.00, however, such hardware devices do allow the formatting of individual sectors with or without valid checksum data.
A friend of mine, did attempt adding the PIC chip to his Playstation. He asked me if I could look at it, to see if I could fix it for him. After seeing the number of wires, and the number of bridged solder connections that he's made, I diagnosed the project as terminal. He bought a new Playstation, and now he does his best to avoid scratching his discs.

 

No. The PS2 discs have a barcode pressed into the center area of the game disc. There is no way any current disc burners can replicate this barcode as it is outside the area which disc burners can reach, amking it quite effective at preventing what you desire.
