Now, I can make a zip or a rar file, that's easy. But when I do, it is positivly the SAME size as it was prior . . .!!? Isn't zipping a file supposed to compress it???

I use WinRar, and I have the compression set to "best". I right click a file and select "add .xxx to zip"

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks.

some files that cannot be compressed all that much are the ones that are already compressed by other formats. for example mp3's and compresses pictures.

As said above depending on the original file type you may have just gotten to a point when you cannot compress that file anymore and using multiple compression utils may just increase the file size as the compression util needs to add it bit of programming to aid file type and uncompression routines.
