    Second day in succession I've had a random shutdown. Message said something like: "Windows has detected a potential problem and has shutdown to prevent damage to your system. (sic)

    BSoDs are most commonly caused by one of your drivers. Suggest you download, install and run BlueScreenView. It will read the dump files that are created during the crash and suggest which driver(s) is/are responsible. You can then search your computer manufacturer's support pages for updated drivers.
