    Overview
    Adodb.stream provides a method for reading and writing files on a hard drive. This by-design functionality is sometimes used by web applications. However, when combined with known security vulnerabilities in Microsoft Internet Explorer, it could allow an internet web site to execute script from the Local Machine Zone (LMZ). This occurs because the ADODB.Stream object allows access to the hard drive when hosted within Internet Explorer.

    SECURITY UPDATE SUMMARY
    On Friday, July 2, 2004, Microsoft is releasing a configuration
    change for
    Microsoft Windows(r) XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Server(tm) 2003 to
    address recent malicious attacks against Microsoft Internet
    Explorer.


    Windows customers are encouraged to apply this configuration change
    immediately to help protect against current Internet Explorer
    issues. The
    update is available on the Windows Update Web site.

    PLEASE ALSO NOTE
    Customers who have installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 RC2 are not

    After reading this, I get the distinct feeling that this is not a FIX, but a workaround for the time being.

    Have the same feeling as you Kodo, just disables parts of ActiveX but it also means ActiveX becomes handicapped.
    It also seems that it is not enough to just disable that particular function:

    New IE Security Flaw Exposed (Besides ADODB.Stream)

    But it seems Microsoft still seems it is very important to apply the "fix":

    I just checked my up date at windows and it told me there were none, now i have had the service pack1 and thats it i dont remember any auto updates. am i alright? or should i check some thing in case. sorry i remember there is a installation check and i had a update on the 30th june KB833407
