Cross Platform Media Player

    I am looking to ditch ITunes and I am looking for a media player with the functionality of file transfer & Music transfer . Player must have the ability to sync across Windows XP, Ubuntu 14.04 and ios 9 . Advice very welcome.

    Hi plodr, Just trying VLC out, but cannot understand how to display the library by track rather than by album. Thanks for your ideas and support. Will let you know the outcome.

    Thanks. I don't sync and I have no Apple devices.

    I thought of this years ago as I have an iphone and ipod touch but iTunes is a nightmare to use and the updates are not great off the bat, so moved to Zune to manage media on my PCs but thats now defunct in Nov 2015 go next and best I'm using is Groove Music

    https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/microsoft-groove/id669515221?mt=8 its getting there for "i" stuff but Apple are a PITA with apps and what you can do. NO SADLY Linux versions yet but I would imagine one will come soon.

    Only option that's really good I see at present is https://www.tomahawk-player.org/

    This is a 2 year old solution so I'm not sure it works on the latestext version of VLC

    Doesn't look to be available in the Apple app store, so must rule it out for the present.

    Looks like it's only available for Linux, Linux ARM (Raspberry Pi), Windows & MacOS Intel.

    Updated VCL to 2.2 (was 2.1). Followed the instructions contained in your link. Now at appears to sort by track, (but not when I re-open from a planned closure) Have to re-set.

    Ok, so very close now. Thanks to you for all your help and advice.

    I will now close the thread.
