    Greetings everyone!

I am having an issue with my computer which is running the Windows 10 operating system. Every time I shut down my computer, I am getting an error which says CSC.EXE-Application Error. This application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142) Click OK to terminate this application. I have searched high and low for a solution on the internet, but everything seems to be related to an older version of windows and the steps that are provided do not correspond to my actual computer. The only information that I could gather about this error is that it is related to either the NET framework or Microsoft Visual. I would like to note that it seems that this error started to occur after an anti virus program was uninstalled which I can no longer remember the name of that anti-virus program.

    Thanks,
    Marc

    Hi, Marc.

You might need to think harder about the name of that AV software, after uninstall, many of them leave remnants and most companies have a specific clean up routine to follow or an uninstall tool.

Most 3rd party software does work across a range of Windows versions, you might have installed an older version of something without realising. What do you have in Startup or the Systray normally?

Thanks for the reply. The name of the antivirus software that I uninstalled was called Ad-Aware Antivirus + by lavasoftusa

Thank you for the reply, I checked for BitMeter but that application does not exist.

Did you do a Clean Boot or not? It's a troubleshooting mode.

There are different possible reasons for the error you're getting.
Either you have to repair Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile,
or you have to re-install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1.

    Sorry.
Yes, I just ran the Clean Boot. I followed the steps and restarted my computer. I just attempted to shut down my computer after selecting the Clean Boot and the error message no longer appears upon shutting my computer down.

Then that seems to have worked.

So the next steps would be to work through the normal boot software disabled by Clean Boot, to isolate and remove the one that causes the CSC error.

Thank you for all of the help everyone! I isolated the problem to the steam client. Apparently, I was running a beta version of the client. I installed the regular version and the problem seems to have went away.

That figures, I've had similar issues when using a Beta Steam client, never again!

Nice work getting it pinned down :)
