Hi Everyone, I am a Dreamweaver MX 2004 user. I am attempting to learn to use CSS for my web sites (actually convert them to all CSS) While I am getting the hang of it pretty well, I cant seem to figure out why I cant create a layout that has a header, a body, a footer AND a left nav bar and have it all line up, and have the formatting the way I want it. My dilemma is when I try to put in the left Nav, it won't line up where I want it to, how can I learn how to get this right????

    Sincerely,
    Frustrated.

Hey Jodi.. I feel your pain. CSS , while a powerful formatting tool, severly lacks in intuitivness and logical flow organization. I would highly suggest purchasing every recent book by Eric Meyer. He is a CSS master to say the least. You will find that lots of problems arise when you try to display your site in IE and say Mozilla and they don't look right. IE is to blame, not you.

just a little thing to remember but problems viewing in IE and Mozilla. If you are using CSS, be sure to leave no spaces between the value and the property. For Example: Font-family: arial, sans-serif should be Font-family:arial,sans-serif. because Mozilla doesn't like spaces. and to get back on the matter. kodo is right, im having some trouble with my site as well with the layout using css.

Thanks guys, Kodo, you never fail to be there when a question arises, and always have great advice!! I have noticed that perhaps I am the one to blame, I am using short hand when creating my styles in DW MX 2004, using the "create new style button LOL" so I am sure the syntax of the code is correct, anyway, I think that I am not lining it up right, perhaps with Absolute, relative, static, or even my margin settings are wrong, while these seem to confuse me. Anyway, I am now using a #content div, and I formatted it to hold my nav links, and I have it so that it is to the left of the body container, and well, the nav container seems to float over the body when the browser window is resized. Geesh I am just ready to go back to tables LOL. Is it me in this instance??????

    avoid using absolute when possible.
But you can start with a main div that starts at 0px 0px for the top left absolute. This way everything fits into that.
