Before I installed Swiftfox, I was able to use the printer on my other pc from this pc. It is defined as a cups printer on this pc. Before the Swiftfox install this worked <http://localhost:631/printers/EpsonR200>
    Now I get
If I try to connect to cups, via the printer configuration panel I get

Hmmm, does it only happen on SwiftFox?

Unfortunately, it happens with firefox also.

I'm going to delete and redefine the printer and see what happens.

I have a feeling that this message
is at the root of the problem, but I don't know what to look for.

Is the other computer a windows system? Do you need a password over there?

Yes, it is a windows xp pro machine. I had the password taken care of; Are you aware of something I could have done without realizing it that would have changed this?

I have not compiled a Win printer for a while now, but yes you could have needed pw for the winders machine.

I don't see how install of Swiftfox changed printer settings....... unless you had an addon for Firefox to help print access.

the CUPS interface is pretty straight forward and easy to configure. I would uninstall the printer and reinstall with password and see if that worked.

    :cool

Uninstalled and reinstalled the printer - it now works, but I still cannot access cups from the *fox browser.

Now when I enter http://localhost:631/printers (to get to cups to control a printer on another system) I get redirected to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Localhost.

I tried Konqueror, and got right into Cups; so something screwed up both swiftfox and Firefox.
I want to uninstall swiftfox if I can find out how to do it; and then uninstall and re-install firefox.

there is a Swiftfox Forum http://forums.getswiftfox.com/index.php

This is on Mandriva, right? Did you install from the RPM Package Manager or did you use a script like Automatix?

I used the swiftfox installer. My linux distro is fedora core 6
I must be blind, On the swiftfox page, there is an uninstaller in the same paragraph with the installer did the uninstalls and re-installed firefox - no joy (still broke)

Something else is going on in the linux box. I installed another fc6 linux on a different drive - and the same thing happens with the url's.

Installed fc6 on an empty drive on my windoz box and all works ok.

    If i enter
    in firefox url, it works;
also I discovered that I had changed something (do not know what) that had changed the computer name from "localhost" to "xxx.xxx.xxx.2"

The last thing I changed was to set /etc/hosts to the same content as in /etc/hosts in the other linux installed on this box. Content of /etc/hosts is now:
I have no idea what I did that caused /etc/hosts to be changed originally - I did not touch it untill I started looking for a solution to this problem.
