Curiosity question about flat-panel lcd displays

    I've wondered this for a while:

    What can't flat-panel lcd displays whose native resolution is 1280x1024 display an image that is 640x512 or 320x256 clearly? Why does it have to blur the image to such extremes if the resolution is an exact multiple of the native resolution? Why can't they display those resolutions using pixel doubling (or quadrupling) to display it clearly? Is that kind of option actually available on some screens?

    Maybe it depends on the capabilities / resolution, of your graphics card?
