Current impressions of Vista?

My friend told me this weekend that if I get a system with Vista on it, that almost none of my software will work anymore. I have 2003 version of office suite, and use a Palm PDA.

What do you think? A huge mistake?? If I get a super sale at Circuit City down the road aways maybe I can get them to install Win XP instead.

The Upgrade Advisor advises on hardware, on the capability to run Windows Vista. It does not address what software will run on Vista.

I run winrar and power ISO along with nero and various other assorted programs and I game a lot with no issues on vista.

 

I use a version of DVD Shrink from 2004 that works flawlessly, in regards to older apps.

 

No, it's not a huge mistake. I've yet to run into anything that would not work at all. Some programs need to run with administrator permission (nothing to it - right click on icon, select properties from menu, click compatibility tab and check the box next to "run as administrator") , but that is the worst issue I've had. There are a few things that annoy me, but it is not the living Hell some would paint it.
