Cursor Glides to the Upper Right-Hand Corner of Screen

Hi have you ever heard of this happening? I'll be using my mouse and then the cursor takes control on its own and glides up and left to the little red and blue world shape of Mozilla in the upper-right hand corner of the window.

How do I fix this? :major

I opened the Control Panel, I clicked on the mouse icon, but there is no Motion tab. The only tabs are Buttons, Pointers, Pointer Options, Wheel, and Hardware. I looked in each and there is no "Snap to Default" option.

 

Hi OK I just looked again and under Pointer Options there is an option that says "Snap To: Automatically move pointer to the default button in a dialog box." It is unchecked.

 

I've only had it happen once, and it was a sign I had to replace my mouse.

 

When was the last time you cleaned your mouse? Even if it is not a trackball, a build up of dirt on the sensor may cause the problems you are describing.

Just brush the sensor/trackball (and internal bars, if it is a trackball) off with a dry cotton bud (Q-tip)

 

The FIRST thing you should do is scan for malware.

 

Hi thanks. Definitely not malware; I scanned this sucker with all the goodies. It must be a dirty mouse---but would the mouse always slide the cursor exactly the same place (upper left hand corner) every time?

And if it's an old track ball, don't forget to open it up and clean the rollers as well.
