    Hi,

I have a new built spare parts computer with a cursor that jumps to the side
of the screen every 15 seconds or so.

I am looking for a program that will show me what is running in the background. Can someone recommend a free one????? Hopefully it will show the % of resources each task consumes. Perhaps I will find a program that is activating the cursor.

    Computer specs:
    AMD 450 Mz
    256 mb mem
    Win 98SE
    Compac motherboard
    Burner + CD rom
Two drives -one for op sys, other for storage
Note the burner led is blinking each 5 sec with nothing in it

Cntrl Alt Del shows only sys tray, explorer, and this website

    Thank you
    Bill

You can see all the background processes along with the resources they consume with the task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del). You can find out what those processes are with winpatrol:

Yes thank you for the reply.

However, I am using win98se and cntrl alt del shows little info as compared to winxp task mgr which does everything except make breakfast.

Still would like a third party program for win98se to examine what is running and the resourses consumed
    Will look into winpatrol

    Thanx

Just curious, what mouse are you using.......MS's mouse has some known issues, there are some resources for cures at MS

An HP, no trac ball mouse. Glows red. Wait, you think it's just a simple error on the mouse -will find another mouse and substitute it. Just assumed the mouse was ok -should have suspected the most simple cause.

    Thanks

Would still like to find a program that tells me what proceses are running and the percent of resources being consumed by each -do you know of one?

You can use process explorer. Process explorer is a utility I used once upon a time to treat some malware woes. It's solid.

The only little quirk is that it doesn't display physical memory usage by default. To get it to display physical memory usage go to View > Select Columns > Select the Process Memory Tab > Check Working Set Size > OK. Then you'll be golden.

Not the app you're after, but you might try reading this article as a resolution for your problem.

Hard to believe Microsoft can screw up something as ancient and basic as a mouse -and that I now need a fix for my mouse -wow!

Any idea where that "fix" can be found? Or I will just google it.

    Thank you

    I like it!!!!!
Will make the modification you mentioned. OPPS just tried it, -there is no "Process memory tab" on this utility -?????
Oh well -it's still pretty good thanks.

    Thank you,
    Will
