Customizing Windows 7 Libraries

I like the idea of Window's Libraries, the user ones accessed from Windows Explorer.

Unfortunately, I can not get the results I wish. :(

This is what I would like to be able to do...

    I have 4 folders, A, B, C, and D. In each folder are 10 files, 01.xxx,
    02.xxx, ..., 10.xxx.

I create 2 libraries, Odd and Even. When I open the Odd library, I
would like to see the odd numbered files from all 4 folders. Just the
files, not a folders. In the Even library, I want to see all
the even numbered files. That's pretty much it.

Does anyone know of a program that will let me do this?

I'm trying to find a similar solution for OS X but so far no luck.

    Thanks.

    Maybe something here will help
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/libraries

I have Libraries turned off. I never store my files in the expected locations and in a lot of cases do not store files on the computer but rather on a USB stick or drive and some floppies too. ;) (old school; if a file is small and fits on a floppy and doesn't change, that's the best place to store it for my needs).

    Hi, plodr.
The MS article has nothing I've not already learned. But thanks for the link.

I'm not a regular Windows user anymore. Mac OS X Snow Leopard for now. I'm refurbing a Win7 computer for donation to a social agency for their clients, and having to learn about Win7 at the same time. That means libraries.

But, I'm truly disappointed. Shouldn't be too surprised at that, it's an MS design and implementation. :(

From what I've learned so far about Win7 libraries, you can do everything the libraries do using shortcuts, except for displaying the contents of multiple folders in one window. And there may even be a utility hiding out there that can do that.

If libraries were implemented the way I envision them, they would be really useful to the user, in so many ways. To get the same jobs done now takes so many steps that would be eliminated by well designed libraries.

I don't either. I partition, store my user created stuff in that partition or somewhere else. No system restore on those locations. But, backups are created.
