cuting ribbon cables

can ribbon cables be cut to smaller lengths?

my floppy drive cable has 3 block conecters on but ime only useing 2 would it work ok if i cut the end 1 off and used the 1 in the middel?

 

I dont under stand... So, theres NO wire going into the slot you want to cut off... only in the 2 that your not going to mess with?

Also, you can ziptie cables so their rounder... Or you can simply remove your floppy, im running on a legacy free system (i think its legacy free when u dont have a floppy)

 

i still want to be able to use the floppy and have wire tied the cable round but there alot longer than needed

wot i mean is there 3 black blocks on the cable like the picture i want to cut the end 1 of to make it half the size

 

If the part your going to cut off has NO pin/wire in it, ya its fine it wont affect anything. If it HAS a wire in it... DONT CUT IT.

As for cutting it shorter like from 7inches to 4inches, it CAN be done, but it would be VeRY hard.

IDE cables are EZ to modify.....and with floppy cables cut off what you dont need... as long as you dont cut off the pice with the crossover ( whare a part of the cable flips over ..you cant miss it ) Just make you cuts nice and clean with no bare wires showing....
