CyberLink Power DVD causes freezing

Whenever I attempt to play a media file using Cyber Link my firewall reports that it attempts to connect to the internet. I just mention it, I don't think it's suspicious.
The real problem is that as soon as I close Cyber Link the computer absolutely freezes. Any ideas why this is happening?

I can't find any similar issues online, so I would start looking at the event logs. Here's how:

    1. Right-click 'My Computer'
    2. Select 'Manage'
    3. On the 'Computer Management' window, expand 'Event Viewer'

We will want to make note of any red x's or yellow exclamation marks in the 'Application' and 'System' logs around the time of the freezes. Post back with the event ID number, the source, and the exact error text, and hopefully, we'll get some good info.

Thanks for the quick one Mada :)
I've checked the event log after previous freezes and nothing interesting was there only information entries. This time there's an error but it seems to be a coincidence.
I noticed one more little thing. When everything freezes and no key responds, the Num Lock key (which is usually locked) does respond. I press it and the LED light turns on-off. How can a single key be working wen everything else is dead?

The num lock key toggles whether the number pad is numbers or arrow keys. I don't think it has any connection to the computer, other than the byte codes the keyboard is transmitting.

Hmmm... I suppose this means we can't get to task manager during the freezes.... running Process Explorer and intentionally recreating the problem might show us what is consuming all your resources during the freeze.

Have you tried simply reinstalling the app?

Process Explorer didn't do the trick or at least I didn't figure out how to make best use of it. When the system froze there I couldn't see something abnormal in the processes.

I mentioned that the NumLock works because the other two, CapsLock and ScrLk, wich should also turn the LED lights ono-off, didn't respond.

    Any other suggestions?

It was preinstalled on the PC so i don't have any setup file :(. It's not so important to me, I can uninstall it and live without it but it just bothers me that I can't handle a situation on my own PC.

Well, only things I can offer now aren't really fixes, but things that might help:

    1. Registry clean - maybe a key used by the app was added/modified/deleted
    2. Minimizing number of processes while running the app. (might get tedious doing manually, but you could write a simple batch file with the taskkill command to shutdown a set list of known killable processes)

Hopefully a better geek than I can offer something....
