Cyclic Redundancy Error

Hey,

I've recently bought myself a DVD Copy of The Godfather Part II, and I wanted to rip it, because my sister leaves discs around, and they get scratched.
But when I use DVDShrink to try and open the disc to rip it, it has an error when analyzing the disc, something called a 'Cylic Redundancy Error'. It has never happened before, and I haven't had problems ever ripping using DVDShrink.

What's it mean, and how do I fix it, or get passed it?

 

CRC (cyclic redundancy check) errors are fairly generic. It means the data being processed doesn't match up with what is expected. It's probably a result of the fact that DVDShrink (DS) is no longer supported. There's been no improvements on the latest version, and it will often fail on newer discs. I've never had a problem using DVDDecrypter (DD) to rip images. It integrates well with DS (ie use DD to extract an image, and DS to re-author/compress it). However, DD is no longer supported as well. There's been a replacement called DVDFabDecrypter, and it is apparently pretty good, (and is updated), but I've never needed to use anything but DD and DS, so I can't give firsthand comments.

 

Thanks! I'm going to take a shot at DVDFabDecrypter, and see how it works out. It's a shame, two of the most popular dvd programs aren't updated.
