D Drive doesn't work

My problem is when i put something into my D Drive it doesn't register the disk, the option to "install" doesn't come etc.
It makes a few qhirring sounds etc but doesn't do the job.

I've had this problem before and someone showed me how to update my driver, only problem is i can't remmber how to download this thing again.

Once i updated it the cd's still didn't run properlys, e.g if i put something in it still didn't come up witht he "install" option. However i can go to my computer and access the disk from there.

Whilst i think my pc is pretty ****ed i can live with it at it's latter stage.:-D
Mother board and crao:
Advent 7108
intel celeron m410 1.46
512mb ddrl 533 ram
intel 940gml(calistoga)+ ICH7-m
up to 128mb shared
supports intel gma 950
DVD+/-RW

Hi

From your explanation it sounds as if Autoplay/Autorun is disabled, so with guessing you are running Windows Xp then follow this to see if it will set it, open My Computer > Rightclick on your CD/DVD drive > Properties > AutoPlay Tab

Or try this autoplay fix from Microsoft HERE

or if that doesnt work then if your happy to enter the registry, then click Start > Run and type regedit and hit enter then navigate to this location

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom and click on the cdrom folder (in blue)

Then in the right hand menu, double click autorun (in green) and change its default Value to 1 for enable and 0 is disable, then once set to 1 close regedit and reboot.

NOTE, do on the yellow CDROM folder right click it and choose export to backup that area of the registry as doing a step wrong can cause your PC to not function correctly and registry editing shoudl only be attempted if your good with PCs, and as I dont know your skill level, I posted the instruction anyway in case you wish to try that option, but try the first two options before the registry one.

Ok thanks, i willl try that out next time the old girl packs in

I managed to resolve the problem, i will try and find the site which i follwed incase anyone else has this problem or i need to use it again.
