Through technical support, it was determined to be a software issue. So, what software runs the dvd/cd player? M OS is XP... And, can I reload or correct it soewhere off the web?

    Thanks

First go to device manager and uninstall the cd/dvd device ....reboot ...see if it works.
If not, post the details of the device ...also try "update the driver".

After trying that (windows will install the necessary driver) have a look over at Microsoft. Also a bit more info on what is going on would help. :)

Have you uninstalled easy cd creater?

Thank you all for the help. I'm afraid this is a bit above my talent level.
    Best!

Certainly not above your talent ....right click on the desk top icon "My Computer" ....choose "properties" in the menu that appears ...click on Hardware tab .... click on "device manager" ....when that opens, click the + sign at dvd/cd rom .....right click on that device and choose uninstall ..click ok ..ok..then reboot the computer ....post back..:)
