    Hello,

I recently bought a D-link DWA-525 Wireless PCI Adapter for a new unit I was building. I had to resort to a wireless solution since the room the unit was to be put was kinda hard to reach by wires. After I installed the drivers everything seemed to be fine but the machine doesn't seem to see that there is a PCI Adapter plugged into the PCI port and when I try to open the dlink connection manager software it just says that the wireless adapter is not found.

The operating system is Windows XP SP2.

    Thanks

    Greetings, canephalanx.

Anything showing up at all in Device Manager?

You might try uninstalling and reinstalling, let Windows go through the Add New Hardware wizard if it didn't the first time, and point it to the D-link install files.

Might also check your BIOS, disable any adapter settings that may be conflicting.

On the Device Manager , on the Network Adapters section it just shows an Atheros device which I know is my LAN controller. About the BIOS thing where can you see the adapter settings? Im kinda lost. Thanks for the reply.

Not sure why it would make a difference but under specifications is lists the minimum system requirements as a computer with Windows XP sp3.

    • Computer with:
    • Windows® 7**, Windows Vista®**, or Windows® XP SP3**
    • CD-ROM Drive
    • 20MB Hard Disk Space

Yes I saw that too while searching around, but on the box it says Windows Vista/XP/2000. Though it doesn't say what xp service packs its compatible with, but it supports Windows 2000 so I assumed it would work for any xp service pack.

Why not do an upgrade to SP3? Wouldn't hurt, might help.

As far as the BIOS, just scroll through the pages, look for anything network related, and disable anything that looks pertinent. There may be nothing there - don't know your hardware specs, so you might not have any onboard devices.

I'm wondering if the driver might have been changed to make sure SP3 was installed because it says:

** Computer must adhere to Microsoft’s recommended System Requirements.

As Caliban says, it would also be a good idea to upgrade to SP3 because Microsoft is not releasing any more security updates for SP2. And, there have been many updates since final support of SP2 to patch security holes.

I've finally gotten it to work, I pointed it to the Device Manager like caliban adviced. Thanks dude.

But now, it doesn't seem to show me any network but im pretty sure there should be one since my router is on and my laptop can see the network. I've tried disabling Wireless Zero Configuration from windows and used the one installed from dlink and vice versa but to no avail. any ideas?

You might look at Internet Properties, Connections, LAN Settings, make sure you're not hiding behind a proxy.

Is SSID broadcast enabled on your router?

Got it running now guys. Turns out that the antennae wasn't picking up any signal because it was nested in some of the other wires, interference I suppose. But after clearing that out I was finally able to see the network. Thanks to both of you for helping me out really appreciate it. :)
