 I am using a D-Link DWL-G650 card to link my laptop into my wireless router. I can share files and access the internet but everytime I turn on the laptop, I have to use the D-Link Utility to connect to my router. Why doesn't my laptop automatically connect to my wireless router when I power up the laptop?

I am not a big fan of D-Link but that does sound odd that it wont auto connect.

Is there a setting when you do go to connect to where you can have auto connect, or maybe even putting this prog in your start up to see if it will connect on start up??

Let me know how it goes for you.

I can't find anything about auto connecting. Another thing I noticed is when I turn-on my laptop, I will go into the windows wireless network settings and it shows that I am currently connected to my home network but I can't access the internet or share files until I go into the D-Link Wireless AirPlus Utility and connect to my netrwork. So, I am still stuck at this point.

It's a DHCP thing. Try upgrading the firmware on the router. anyway the card remembers an IP so it uses it and the router says forget you I didn't give out that IP.

I have upgraded all of the firmware on my wireless card and router. I also have my router configured to always assign an ip to a certain MAC address.

Kodo, thanks for the link. So far I havent encountered alot of those problems and I have a 2.4 GHZ phone in my house.

I have looked at my router logs and I was wondering what the Ping of Death is. Of course I emailed D-Link Support and I got no answer.
