I recently installed direct x 9 on my system and can no longer run 3D Mark 2001 SE build 330. It says I have to have Direct X 8.1 or better. Isn't 9 better?

Directx 9 is only better if you have a graphics card (and drivers) that support the extra-functionality. I can't remember, whether, without the support DX9 slightly decreases or increases performance. Either way, its too insignificant to really notice. DX9 should be completely backwards compatable with DX8 apps, but maybe your graphics card driver's just don't like it. In which case, you can switch back to DX8 knowing you've lost nothing

did you also change your Video drivers??

I received the same message with the newer ATI drivers on my Radeon 7500 card

Or just change to the new 2003 benchmark. Scores are lower, but it works the same.
