I was on my 11 year old daughters laptop and came across a ton of porn in the history, stuff that would make Larry Flint blush.

She says she has no idea and I believe her (man was that a tough conversation)!

It's a new school laptop and I had not turned her firewall on.

Is it possible someone hijacked the computer? There were even typed words in the google search history that she says she knows nothing about.

Any scenarios of what could have happened? Thanks!

Hi and Welcome to the forum, wow that must have been a hard and interesting conversation with your daughter, but its very possible that maybe not a hijack in the sense of a hacking of the PC was done but its possible some malware has infected the PC which in turn leads to porn websites etc,

so best option I would follow is to use our Malware forum to have one of the experts in their at malware removal look through some logs which can be gained by running the following, one you have followed the steps, start a new thread in the malware forum and attach the logs with a brief explanation of whats happened.

It looks alot to follwo but most of it is background info on the scans and what they do and soem guidence on how to run them, so good luck and I knwo if this is related to malware the guys will find and help you remove it :)

Our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

it also could be that she just clicked on a link while doing a search.

if it is winXP the OS the firewall is already enabled.
if another earlier OS you need to download and install one.
there are several free ones that are good.

    Thanks a lot guys.

Halo, thanks for your help. Seems a bit complicated for me.

I think I'm just going to trust her and hope it was spyware or whatever they call it now and just do my best to watch her. If I see it again, I will use your suggestions.

I'm going to restore her computer in case something's in there.

Appreciate your help. Nice when guys will just help people out these days!
