I tried to reinstall FarCry today and discovered that the 1st cd had about a 1cm crack that originated at the hole and encroached into the shiny part if the disk for ~ .5cm. I was able to use the disk for the install, but when I went to put the disk in to play, I noticed the crack was much larger, more than halfway across the disk.

Is there a way to repair this? I’m guessing not, so im looking to find out ways to get the game to run, legal ways mind you, I know these forums are not for cheating or stealing.

    Thanks for any ideas...

Wrong Plphon. You can try and find a crack for your game. just use google/yahoo and type something like "Far Cry No CD crack" and there you go you should be able to find a compressed exe file which you will then uncompress into your Far Cry folder and play (I do this all the time to be able to play my games without the CD cause [1] I'm to lazy to constantly look for my CDs and [2] I pay alot of money in South Africa for games so it increases the life of CDs). Just don't uninstall Far Cry. Also have a look at the official site for Far Cry and try and contact them some places have a replacement policy on damaged CDs where you will send them in your damaged CD and they will send you a new one(I think). Oh and downloading the crack and using it is not illegal when you paid for the original game. Have Fun.

yeah you can, but there is no guaranties that the game will work properly without mistakes, and using "crack" is illegal

The story gets a little better, did anyone see the Mythbusters episode where the tried to show a CD blowing up into little potentially lethal shards?

I was trying to get my disk to work by aligning the crack the best I could, I got it just right and the drive started to spin - it was just signaling error before - after a couple of seconds and a loud pop I opened the drive and found at least 50 small shards of the disk. Certainly not lethal, but at least I got a little more entertainment from the disk on its way out...

I'll look around for a crack, otherwise Ill get a new copy, even without the final fireworks, I have definitely gotten my monies worth from the $19.95 game

    Thanks for the help

Pleasure. And I agree with you Plaphon, using "crack" is illegal except in Holland and Jamacia. lol.
