Please forgive my ignorance, I'm not technologically enlightened ... Can anyone tell me the best way to deal with a scratched photo cd? I've been told to purchase a cd scratch repair kit but also advised to try software. Any assistance is much appreciated! Thanks

Sorry, I can't even figure out how to post a question, I'm not sure if I'm even doing it properly now. I also had a question about an ipod that is carrying malware. If anyone can tell me how to properly direct this question, thank you...

Sorry for double post.:-o Hadn't had enough coffee yet.rolleyes

I should have also mentioned that when you post a question about a problem, it would be helpful if you included the:

    computer make/brand and model #
OS, XP, Vista, Win 7/8, version, SP(x) and whether it's x86 or x64
    for the computer in question.

If plastidust's suggestion doesn't work you an try THIS. Be patient - the page will take quite a while to load.

It may sound strange but white toothpaste can sometime repair scratches.
It has to be plain white - no gels and no additives in the toothpaste. Probably something cheap from a $ store would be the kind to buy.

Put the paste on from the center ring and move out to the edge in a straight line. DO NOT RUB in a circle. You can rinse off with a soft cloth in distilled water (I use regular tap water to clean CDs). Again be sure not to rub in a circle but instead from a straight line from center to the edge of the CD.

I've had good luck removing scratches in CD's (and one DVD) by simply buffing them out with a Dremel, a cotton buffing wheel, some polishing compound, a light touch, and lots of patience. If it's in the bottom, it has to go pretty deep to be unrecoverable. If it's in the top, scratches that look pretty minor can still penetrate to the layer where the data is actually stored.

There's probably about a dozen CD's in my collection that I was given or purchased at garage sales with scratches that needed to be buffed out. There have been a couple with scratches too deep to buff out as well. If that's the case, recovering what you can with something like Unstoppable Copier might be all you can do.
