Damaged printer

I have never had any luck getting a consensus of answers and am not sure why I am trying again. I guess it's a way to get _some_ kind of answers.

To put it plainly I have not had _NEARLY_ the good luck with Hewlett-Packard printers as a lot of people seem to have had - especially in trying to get technical support. When brand new my current (expensive) HP Photosmart D5345 refused to go into "Printer Services" (clean cartridges, etc.) from day one, I found the HP support address and emailed them about it several times and _never_ got a reply. I paid ten times for it what a cheapie costs and this is intolerable. I feel like a fool for buying a third _bad_ HP.

Now it fails to feed paper (I can see one of the two drop-down drive wheels broken off) and I've searched for an official HP service station for an hour and haven't found one.

So I very much want something HP has never been able to provide - a good, serviceable printer able to do a wide variety of printing jobs well (but not the many fancy photo features the D5345 was made for). I do not have a lot of printing to do; sometimes it's idle for days. But when I want something printed I expect my printer to work. And I'm not talking about dried up ink carts, just a printer that works.

One reason I got this printer was because there were extra large, refillable cartridges available for it. (By leaving it totally powered down at the power strip between uses I can refill the carts myself.)

So I hope for suggestions... What printer would give me the service HP claims to give?

There is another thread about how bad HPs are, I gave up and got an Epson too.
For your information HP will not warrant a unit that has used refilled ink. They told me that in a tech call, well first they ask if I've only used HP genuine ink cartridges, then warned me about not using them. So if your using refills don't admit it to support when you call.

Right. The biggest companies are the worst when it comes to support. They all work hard to blame the customer and break their warranty.

On the other hand, maybe bottle ink made that drive wheel break off!!

Thanks. These .lnk problems are making me too bleary eyed to see the fine print.
