I just reinstalled windows XP, i just downloaded service pack 2 fresh from microsoft site. When i run it, its extracting files but half way there it aborts and says the file is damaged. Is microsoft distributing damaged service packs? I don't think so, cause i downlaoded and installed lots of sp2 for my work. does anyone experienced this before?

The file was probably just corrupted on download. Try downloading it again.

Did you download the actual setup file? or did you get it through Automatic Updates? Whichever way you did it, try it the other way.

Guru3d.com also has sp2 setup file download, depending on which server you find fastest :)

    Service pack 2 error

Ill continue my previous thread here cause i accidentaly posted it in the hardware section

I get the error that service pack file is damaged, i downloaded it from different locations but they all come with the same error. I use the dutch language version of windows XP so the sp2 file on majorgeeks.com will not install on my system.

The error is: The file is damaged

I get this error when i start extracting the files from the setup file.

I was experimenting with the windows RAID software.
    My disks are as follows:

    Disk 1: 120 GB
    Disk 2: 160 GB

    I was experimenting this:

Stripe disks 1 & 2 to 240gb, that leaves 40gb left wich i used for windows partition. I didn't notice any real improvements (except that my disk were faster accesable but windows got slower) so i decided to revert the process and i deleted all my partitions and re-installed xp on a normal config:

    C: 40gb
    D: 120gb
    E: 120gb

I converted it in such a matter that i backed up all my files and copied them from partition to partion when i was re-converting the active volumes.

Now personally i think my CRC is messed up, if i don't get it to work by tomorrow ill have fdisk over all my disks and start over on totally fresh partitons, bye bye data. :(

Hey uhm does anyone knows the default block size of your HDD?
i got a 64k block size and i have a hunch that this may be causing the file corruption. At least until someone can prove me wrong

(i formatted ALL data but it still comes with same issue)

Well i just found out that the error does not involve any of my HDD's...
This keeps getting better and better, I've tried 3 different XP copies (including originals), i tried different RAM banks and still same error... Oh dear god, don't let it be my mobo please... I just purchased +512Mb and an extra 160Gb HDD, i can't afford it now, i need money for vacation lol :p

ANYone who knows what else a read/write error on the memory module 0x00000 etc. could be except HDD or memory please respond
