I know heaps's been said about elitebar, but I've run everything (norton, xoftspy, adaware, spybot and the remover) and gone through various manual deinstalls, and the damn thing's still popping up all over the place.

Should I attach my hjt logfile now?

    thanks

    Daniel.

We require our full clean procedure be run (ALL steps) in the order written before we will look at HijackThis logs. Please follow the steps below.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

Ok, I've managed to kill it, but in the end the only thing that worked was this; which I found in forums.designtechnica.com

I have now created an Elite Tool Bar removal batch file.

Download the latest version of the file from:

    http://uk.geocities.com/darren_st/etb/eliteremover.txt

    1. Save the file to your desktop.

    2. Rename the file from eliteremover.txt to eliteremover.bat

    3. Restart your PC in safe mode (very important).

    4. Double click on eliteremover.bat

    5. Restart your PC in normal mode.

    6. Elite Tool Bar should be removed.

The batch file does the following:

    * Removes Elite Tool Bar files.
    * Removes Elite Tool Bar folders.
    * Removes Elite Tool Bar registry entries.

I'm happy to hear you fixed your problems, however, if you did not want to follow our directions, why did you post here.

There is an EliteToolBar removal program available here on MGs that works for many cases too.

Sorry if I've wasted anyone's time, but I'd already tried everything this or any other site I could find recommended, including the removal program. It wasn't until I'd already posted here that I stumbled across the .bat file. I just thought I'd post that I'd fixed it and how, in case it proved helpful to someone else.

All you had to do was finish following my steps given in my first post to you and give us you HJT log. You would have been fixed up within one message.

At any rate I'm happy to see you have everything fixed up! :)
