Hi!! My PC runs like a Singer sewing machine, then all of a sudden my darn mouse freezes up and I have to do a hard boot to get my mouse to work. That's the only problem I'm having. I know I'm not infected. I have searched for a different driver. Says I have the latest driver. Is there a way I can prove that my mouse needs to be replaced?? It's pretty old. :confused

Does your mouse just randomly "die" (ex. red light goes out, have to unplug-replug to get it working)? I take it it's an optical mouse?

Hi!! Yes the mouse just stops working. Some times the curser frezzes. Sometimes you can move it but it won't do any thing. It may go for a couple of days and work just fine and then it might freeze a couple of times a day. The red light never goes out and unplug-replug doesn't do any good. I have to do a hard reboot.
    I think it's a Intellipoint 4.1 It's probably just old like me!!:-D

I found my CD and reinstalled my mouse. It seems to be working just fine. I will see what happens and report back here!!;)

There might be something broken inside the mouse(mine does/did that)

At $20-40 for a much better replacement, why not just buck up and lie the old boy to rest? I have had really good experience with the Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000. It's wireless (as it says in the title), doesn't use batteries up TOO quickly, tracks VERY well without any mouse pad, is very precise, and is comfortable for extended use. Mine's black and while it has the tactile feedback of pushing the buttons, it doesn't make a "click" sound... I found that slightly disconcerting at first, but quickly realized I didn't miss the annoying sound after all. :-D

Hi!! Thanks for your advise. I've been wanting to try wireless, but was worried about battery life. I will have to convince the wife. She doesn't like changes:-D.
I'm also thinking about giving this old Dell desk rig to my daughter and just going with a lap top. Can you recommend a good one??:wave Some thing under 1,000$

What would you be using that laptop for? How big of a screen do you want?

Hi Spock! I'm going to get a little personal with you. My wife and I are in our 70's. We are going to sell our home and move into one of those assisted living centers next year. I don't want to give up my computer, but I need to slim down. A decent size screen????:wine I don't need a large HD. Don't do music or movies. I know I will have to move up to W7 and I'm dreading that. I want a decent lap top, but it doesn't have to be great. I got wires strung all over the place now and I need some thing more compact.
    Thank you !!

If your just gonna be searching the web and such like that. Why not shoot for a netbook (small 10" or so screen). I don't know if you would want something bigger. Acer makes very nice ones, my girlfriend has this one and she loves it: Acer Aspire One AO532h,

(The only downside would be it comes with Win 7 Starter factory defualt, so you can't like change your background and such). But all-in-all it's a very very nice computer.

Hi!! I have awhile to think about it. Thank you for your reply. Will be researching different things. The way things change, there's no telling what new products will be out there by the time I have to decide:-D

I think you might be happier with a notebook/laptop with a 15.6" or larger screen than a tiny netbook. The larger screen might be better for old eyes.

Hi!! I hear that:-D. My eyes are the only thing good I have left. I had the cataract surgery and I see real well now, My screen is only 17 inches now, so that wouldn't be that much difference. Thanks for your reply!! USAF 1958-1962;)

Took awhile to get use to, since my old awesome mouse died (Logitech G9x, I like this one, since I could change the weight of the mouse, prefer heavy mice):

My new mouse (Razor Mamba), can be wired or wireless, which I love, now that I'm use to it. It needs recharged, fine, plug it in, works fine. Charged, plug the usb cord into the base charger, then when I'm done with the computer put the mouse on the base charger. Awesome.

Logitech is a fantastic brand and in my experience their Cust Serv is excellent. My old mouse (MX700) had a 5 year warranty and close to it expiring the charger/mouse didn't work anymore (2008). I called them and I just had to ship the defective mouse to them and they sent me a new MX Revolution for free. No warranty on this one though. Be sure if you select a new Logitech mouse that it has a middle click button. Mine doesn't - it's for superfast scrolling. The software that came with the mouse didn't go well on my machine. Had to make some calls to get the mouse working without the software. I got this cordless puny little stick into a front USB that communicates with the mouse. To make the story short. I miss my middle click button and have to use the Ctrl and left click for the same result.
