Data Base Software

I think I am asking this in the right place.

I am looking for a software to create a data base for where I work.
We use Microsoft Access and of course excel. The tech department created us a data base, but we are not happy with it. Is there such a software to be able to create your own and add drop downs and features that you would need. We also need to be able to update it with new information. This data base is our primary concern for operation to be able to access teachers across the United States for online classes and programs.

ms access is pretty powerful in the right hands I perfer MS Fox pro it has the ability to make stand alone programs where you dont need to buy access from Microsoft

Can you not request the IT dept to change the database to what you need?

If you already have Access (what version BTW) then you have the tools already to create your own, but must say its not the easiest task, I've colaborated in 3 for work and my dept, but took a while to learn the ins and outs to get it right.

May find some info to help you here on Office Online and the Help and How tos http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/FX102855291033.aspx depending what your DB needs to achive you may also find some pre done templates that could work in the templates section as their are some for schools when i was looking for any easy way, but not many medical ones for what I needed sadly, so had to do it myself.
