i am not that aware on data compression cause i only have done it once and it didn't work well. Anyway, i am not sure which is better or what to get of the three compression/extraction programs - winzip, winrar or powerarchiver (the last of which is not even avaliable through majorgeeks, so i am slightly unsure and skeptical). Anyone try these and what would u use if u are using mostly to extract?

Personal preference of mine is RAR so WinRAR is the most used compression format I use with about 20% of stuff just Zipped with Windows own zip format.

one app worth a look at is ZipGenius 6.0.2.1040 as its a bit of a hybrid and does most of the formats of compression/extraction, user interface is easy to get used to.

Their is the excerllent 7-Zip to also think about, all three of the options are good.

i won't lie to u guys. i don't want something free and am now thinking of using it for file compression of avi's if possible. This comes after some research and uncertainty over all the various compression programs. in the end i just don't have a clue. Please give me a huge assist here.
