Date & Time

Hey

When I start my pc it starts with the date and time from the time the p.c was shut down, so I keep having to reset the date & time everytime I go on the p.c. which is annoying, how do I get it to be the right time?

 

Click on the clock in taskbar, click "Change date and time settings", click the Internet Time tab. Make sure that the "Sychronize with an Internet Time Server" box is checked and a server chosen.

NTP time sync probably won't help because the time service only checks every few days by default even if the PC is turned off.

In other words, the clock stops when you turn the power off?

I'd hazzard a guess that the clock battery is dead, although usually it resets to 1980 or 1970 or 2000. Open up the case and look on the motherboard. There should be a coin-sized watch battery on the motherboard. That battery maintains the clock and other settings when there's no power to the PC. Pop that sucker out and take it to a hardware store and get a replacement.

 

It was already ticked, time.windows.com underneath.

Where would the battery be in the Motherboard?
