    Hi

I'm thinking about buying a new PC and am looking at a Dell with 512MB DDR2 RAM. Can anyone tell me how DDR2 RAM compares with ordinary RAM - will 512 DDR2 produce the same or greater speed than normal?

    Thanks

    Liz

RAM of any description should be appropriate to motherboard and processor. If Dell have fitted DDR2 then that is what it needs.
DDR2 is the most modern type of RAM so will be around the longest, unlike the RDRAM Dell fitted in the early 2000s- it's fine really.
512Mb is fine for Windows XP but not for Vista you need at least twice this i.e. 1GB or more. If the pc is new think about this if you intend to take advantage of the Vista upgrade token.
finally anybody buying a Dell should check the options list carefully and tick the box for restore CDs. They are very very cheap with the pc but very very expensive later on if you need them.
