DDR or SDRAM - how do you know???!!

right, im gonna upgrade my ram from 192megs to 512, or even more with the current ram + the new 512. how do you know if you need ddr or sdram? surely they're identical!

please help!!!!!

 

ddr is short for Double Data Rate-Synchronous is which is a type of sdram
If your looking to upgrade then there are two ways i would do it. One would to be to look at your existing memory to see the speed i.e. PC1600, PC2100, PC2700, or PC3200 to find out what you need. Or you can look up your motherboard information and find out the types of memory it can handle. Chances are that if you bought a complete system they didnt give you the best memory that your motherboard can handle.

 

DDR has one notch ........

aaaah the picture gives clever info thanks. will there be a sticker on my current ram saying wot it is? i have 3 sticks in at the mo, do you think it could handle 3 x 512mb?

 

What Mobo do you have?

 

no idea, i just can see that it has 3 ram slots. how do i find out what it is?
