    Hey guys

I have a Dell Dimension 5000 bought in january 2005, i'm trying to upgrade my RAM (currently at 256 Mb, DDR2-400 184 pin) but it seems that the only DDR2 RAM out there is now 240 pin. This might sound like a stupid question but does the pin number affect the size of the RAM cause if that is the case then 240 pin RAM will not fit in a motherboard that currently supports 184 pin! Is this correct?

Is there 184 pin DDR2 RAM out there or will I have to change my motherboard in order to upgrade?

    Thanks

Appears that 240 PIN is correct.

    System Memory ConfigurationSystem Type:
DesktopStandard Memory: 256MB (Removable) or 512MB (Removable)
Maximum Memory: 4GBExpansion Slots / Banks :4 Sockets
Comments / Notes: MODULES MUST BE ORDERED AND INSTALLED IN PAIRS for Dual Channel mode.

This system is configurable and may ship with either DDR2-400 or DDR2-533. These are compatible and can be mixed, however when mixed they will default to DDR2-400.

If 4GB is installed, the recognized memory may be reduced to 3.5GB or less (depending on system configuration and memory allocation).
