Dead laptop?

I have a Gateway MX6450 laptop. I was checking the Sears website out when my laptop suddenly rebooted. Ever since it has been in cyclical reboot, but never succeeding past a blue screen. I can not boot it in regular mode, any of the safe mode options (BSOD)s) and the recovery disk boot results in an error ( RtlExpandEnviro~nmentStrings_U could not be located in the dynamic link library ntdll.dll.).

In safe mode the file it last reads and fails on is the driver agpCPRQ.sys (video driver corrupt?)

One of the many blue screen error codes I captured was STOP: 0x0000000A (0x00000020, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x8042A10D)

Basically I cannot get in to this machine other than the BIOS, which I can access. No new software or hardware has been added.

I have a full Acronis image, but right now I'm not sure this is going to help me either.

Clean install or anyone have any other ideas first?

    Lev,

I know that you are going to hate me for asking, but what OS is this laptop running? :)

Thats not the video driver, but...boot to your XP CD, go to the Recovery Console, and run a chkdsk /r.

    Hi Lev

With not adding anything new to this PC in regards to HW or SW, its possible that HD is on way out or you have suffered HD corruption, so if possible boot to the OS cd and repair console and run chkdsk /r *hahahah snap Adryn*

Also could not hurt to use the Acronis backup as a last resort to see if indeed it was OS corruption of files, if that doesnt run ok then suspect hardware failure, is this laptop still under warranty? ( kinda remember you only getting this late last year )

Thanks for the reply guys. I'm running XP home edition.

Just to not, I do not have XP disks, only the manufacturers operating system recovery disk. Had zillions of problems getting in to this too, and when I finally did my options were very limited. Either a full recovery with back-up or a full recovery-destructive. Neither work - it blue screened at the end of each!

@Halo - been racking my brains around Acronis. Changed the boot order in the bios and tried to boot from the external WD Passport drive. Nada. Not sure how else I can access the acronis back up at this stage. All paths lead to nowhere. I actually bought the laptop 2 years ago - it is mine, not the works one, which you may have got confused on dates over. But yes, after the 1 year warranty expired I took out a further 2 year full warranty simply because it is a laptop. I'm thinking I'm nearing the point where I have to say, OK....time to ship it off ? You have PM btw.

@Adryn - now you know why I stay out the driver forum :p

Hopefully, you have System Restore turned on.
Do you have an optical drive in the laptop? Can you boot from an Acronis Boot CD? If you don't have one, I can upload an Acronis oot CD which will let you get at your backup.

System restore is on, of course ;)

I can access the acronis on my desktop downloading the 15 day trial version from their website, so I have access to my files now *phew*.

However, the laptop is still not performing in any mode whatsoever, and I'm going to contact Gateway and have it shipped for repair. I'm thinking the hard drive or CPU let out some smoke.
