    Hi
I have just been given a Hi-Grade 8615 GTK laptop, with a motherboard fault, the laptop was originaly sent to a repair shop with a broken power jack connector, upon fixing the jack, was soldered back on i believe, the mother board developed a fault , laptop will power up but no boot, black screen, and every 20 or so seconds keeps trying to boot, the laptop is in excellent condition otherwise. Was wondering if anyone else has had a similiar problem and if it is fixable without having to replace motherboard and, if the board has to be replaced could someone point me in the right direction of getting a compatible board for this machine.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Iain.

I'd check to be sure it is actually the motherboard that is the problem.

If there is an optical drive, try booting a linux live CD. Post back stating if the symptoms are the same or different; if different explain what happened.

Try attaching an external monitor & see if you can get any display on it.

i would try what PLODR said and if it boots from optical drive i would check the hard drive. i had a laptop do the same thing and a couple of pins on the drive was bent from someone removing and installing the HD.

how do i create a linux live disc??? i've tried downloading ubuntu and it came in a zip file but when i opened to unzip iso file to creat bootable cd there was not one there.
I am using 7 ultimate and followed the instructions on the linux download page... http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download ...,i'll keep on trying untill some one gets back to me.

OK right i have tried to boot comp with linux abuntu, (disc works as tried it on desktop), nothing just the same as before, machine powers on for a few seconds, screen stays black, power leds light up,you can hear drive kick-in,rom spins with disc, then powers off with a click/clunk and try's to power up again this is a reccuring thing like it is stuck in some kind of loop, cant access bios as it doesnt get that far before powering off and going into that loop!!! any suggestions, or should i just sell it as salvage!!!rather try and fix it though if its possible.;)

Silly question, but have you tried pulling the battery out, disconnecting power and leaving for about a minute, then try again? Also, try what vodoo said, see if you can get something on an external monitor.

I have decided to give up on this as i think/more than sure than/sure it is the motherboard and i don't have the expertise/money or time to replace motherboard. So have decided to list it on fleabay as salvage, maybe some one might have the knowledge/time and money to put it right,or strip it down.
Thanks to all those who have helped to try and resolve my issue.
    Best Regards Iain
