I have a computer that was dead, no power. I changed the power supply and now there is power to it. However, when i power it up, it just keeps running.
Nothing shows up on the monitor, the A: drive light does not come on & there is no beep. I did change power cords first & check the outlets.
The person told me that they do get power spikes at there home. I am thinking that i need to change the motherboard, but i'm fairly new to repair and have never had this problem before. Is there anything else i can do before changing the motherboard?

I'd have to say your board is dead. I had the same thing happen to me just recently. Remove your RAM, and turn the computer on. If it beeps at you, the processor is still good at least. If you don't have onboard video, reinstall the RAM, and pull the video card, and then turn it on. It should beep at you. If it still doesn't work after reinstalling the video card, you need a new motherboard.

    Hi,

I would try the monitor on another machine just to see if a power spike got that, then if you have one try another video card. As Triaxx2 suggested the beep test is a pretty good indicator that the board is bad especially if none of the drives lite or spin up. Make sure you have a case speaker.

I would say there's a pretty good chance of the board being dead. I had the same problem with a dead board about 2 years ago. The hard drive and floppy drive lights came on and nothing else happened. I took it into the shop and they confirmed it was dead.

Wouldn't bad memory cause this problem as well?

I'm pretty sure it would beep with bad memory, as if there wasn't anything there.

Bad memory will sometimes make a mobo beep, but the memory can also produce just a few errors and the mobo won't beep at all. The board will usually beep only if it can't find any usable memory

Yes the memory can cause this and should be checked in another machine with memtest86 for at least 3 passes for a quick check but it is better to let it run 8 hours or so.
