    Hi there,
    Thanks for reading.

I have an MSI mobo (kt7 Turbo2) with an AMD 950MHz proc which seems to be dead. System starts as follows:
    Fans run
    power led lights
    No beeps
    No display

I disconnected everything with no effect (cd, floppy, HD, video, nic). I even booted w/out ram and the system didn't beep. Removed the cmos battery since I couldn't id the jumper. No effect. Disconnected the cpu fan. No bulging/oozing capacitors.

Not sure how the pc was performing just before. Belongs to the company. Seems like a cpu at this point. Just looking for someone with another idea before I pull the trigger.

    Thanks again for reading,
    Bob

It could also be either the motherboard or the psu. If you have a spare psu I'd try that first.

agreed, also check the cmos jumper make sure its not jumped out. How was the thermal grease on the unit? any burn marks on the cpu, or a burnt smell?

    Thanks for your suggestions.

I pulled the heatsink and wouldn't know badly applied thermal compound if I saw it. It looked like all other cpu's I've opened up. I also couldn't identify any lingering burnt smells.

The mobo "appears" ok so I am going to try a different psu.

    Thanks again for your help!
    Bob
